Penguin Sport Wash is the ideal product to strip your diapers with, much easier and less harsh than dish detergent that is often recommended for stripping diapers. It works as a detergent so this is all that you need. Simply place the diapers dirty or clean in the washer, add a 1/2oz for HE machines or 1oz for regular machines, wash on the longest setting, rinse and dry as usual. If you are starting with dirty diapers, rinse and spin them before the long wash to remove as much urine and fecal matter as possible. An additional wash with Penguin Sport Wash may be needed if you start with dirty diapers and the desired results are not obtained with the first wash.

Why don't other common detergents sold in stores fail?
Over time the residue builds up within synthetic fabrics and detergents like Tide and Woolite (see picture of the efficiency). These detergents doesn't strip the repellency properties but rather coats the fabric that start trapping moisture; which in tern the bacteria builds up causing foul odor and lose its repellency over time.

Penguin Sport Wash works with ALL types of fabric including natural and synthetic fibers. This instruction wasn't designed for our customer to use more detergent than necessary but why you may need to go through the stripping cycle depending on the condition of your washing machine and the diapers that are having stink issues. Same goes for old synthetic clothes that may smell stale. This is all caused by build-ups. Customers with super hard water may need to use extra detergent to boost rinsability.

Strip Your Washing Machine First
If this is your first time using the Penguin Sport Wash, you may need to run an empty cycle with hot/warm water and the Sport Wash. This will clean out and push any residue left behind old detergents and anything that may cause more problem washing your diapers. Sport Wash can and will clean not only the build-ups but things like stains and other problems associated with your clothes.

If no bubbles from old detergent remains and the washing machine looks clean, you can then tackle washing the diapers.

Two to Three Washing Cycles May be Necessary
Because build-ups occur when things like dyes including optical brighteners (a lot of detergent with so-called FREE & CLEAR still have dyes) sticks to the fabric layer upon layers over time, it will also trap dirt, oil and other things causing the fabric to lose its absorbing (natural fibers) or repellent (synthetic) properties. You'll see this when your running shorts or pants start to absorb moisture instead of wicking. The same goes for when cotton cloth diapers start to repel and not absorb the baby's pee. This is a major sign of detergent build-up. Though you may wash everything at once, we recommend keeping cloth diaper washing separate from other fabric to minimize contamination.

Continue Using Penguin Sport Wash
If you especially have hard water or super hard water, you already know it's very difficult to wash off soap and other detergent on a daily basis. It's very important to know that residue-free detergent like Sport Wash will help to clean your fabric more so than other commercial detergents that wreck havoc on your clothes and cloth diapers. You may also want to consider using water softener and filters to combat hard water especially if the levels are very high.

Other Use for Penguin Sport Wash
Aside from everyday washing, if you have stains and odor that's very difficult to get rid of, use the Sport Wash to see and smell the difference. Grass stains, dirt stains, and even skunk sprays can be eliminated with Sport Wash! Shoes can be cleaned thoroughly and get rid of the funky smell while restoring the fabric's natural property.
